Notable Features

Following a bandit attack of his train, Washington has a scar along his left side from where he was stabbed with a knife. Otherwise, his skin is clear and free from markings, tattoos, and piercings.

As a result of his injury, Washington uses a cane sometimes to assist him, but he is not always seen with it. He does have a slight limp and moves at a slower pace than a typical man of his age.

Wash has a very distinct way of speaking as well, which is revealing of his elite education in New York. His accent is a learned Trans-Atlantic one. Think Orson Welles.

Lastly, Washington doesn't really ever smile or express his emotions openly.

Personal Style

More often that not, Washington is seen in Western-style clothing, typically in suits and ties. He still has his nicely tailored suits and crisp white shirts from his suitcase. Though he hasn't worn it in public since arriving to Never, Washington does still have his tuxedo from New York as well.

He most likely has purchased traditional Chinese clothing while living in Never, but he does not wear them to work, or outside of Chinatown for that matter. Wash is far more comfortable in Western clothing.

At his work, where he is most frequently encountered, Washington wears black trousers and a vest, and a buttoned up white collared shirt. At times he has a black apron wrapped around him too.

Circumstances

Currently

Washington has recently found work at the Jackson Brother's General Store as a clerk, following his recovery from his injuries. He has a small home in Chinatown as well, which is the neighborhood in which he spends most of his time outside of his job. He enjoys walking through other areas as well though and is very polite and respectful of everyone he comes across. Notably, Washington smokes like a chimney and is often seen with a cigarette in hand.

Health & Capabilities

During a train robbery just outside of Never, Washington was stabbed when he tried attempted to protect the life of another passenger. His injury has left him with a nasty scar on his left side, as well as chronic pain.

He uses a cane to assist him, and tends to move rather slowly, though he does his best to mask his disability. Still, he lacks the ability and stamina to do hard labor and often finds a place in the store to sit after standing for long periods of time.

Emotionally, Washington is a deeply melancholic man, but he covers his emotions behind a somewhat solemn and serious expression. He rarely smiles and never laughs, and only his eyes reveal his true, inner feelings.

Socioeconomics

Growing up, Washington was extraordinarily wealthy - his family are most likely the richest Chinese family in the United States. Surely if he were to make contact with his parents, Washington would once again have access to a grand fortune, but as he is currently not speaking with his parents, he survives off of the money he makes as a Clerk at the General Store. He leads a humble, modest life in Never.

Hobbies

Poetry, puzzles, and books are among Washington's favorite things, and he enjoys writing poetry of his own as well. He also has a violin that he enjoys playing. Though he is not very good at it, Wash also likes to cook his own food.

Despite his pain, he also has a habit of taking long walks through the town, sometimes even venturing a short distance outside of town to enjoy more of the nature.

Habits & Routines

Washington is comforted by routine and structure. As a very self disciplined man, his habits are important and help him to feel safe despite the chaotic world he lives in. It's very important to him to at least feel the illusion of control.

Each morning he rises before dawn and meditates in front of a small alter he keeps in his home. His appearance and personal hygiene is important to him, so following his meditations, he always cleans and dresses himself for work.

Each day, he works as a clerk at the General Store downtown, and as a habitual cigarette smoker, he often stops outside before entering to have one, then smokes another on his lunch break, an additional one in the afternoon, and yet another after he has helped to close the store.

On Sunday mornings while others might attend Church, Washington enjoys taking walks through the town, or finding a cool place to sit and read or write. Sometimes he may carry his violin with him, which he spends a bit of time each evening practicing as well.

After sunset, Washington typically returns to his Chinatown home to cook himself a small meal and either read, work on a puzzle, or play his violin. He takes time to clean himself each night as well, then drink a cup of tea before he mediates once more. He is almost always in bed by 9pm.

Personality

Washington is a somber and quiet man who tends to keep to himself and tries his best to blend into his surroundings. He hides any sign of his emotions and does not smile or laugh, keeping a serious and blank expression on his face at all times.

He is melancholic and introverted, though when he encounters others he is extremely polite and formal. First impressions may lead others to believe him to be cold and distant, but in truth, Washington is an extremely compassionate and caring man once one begins to know him.

Though it is easy assume that Washington is one of many Chinese workers who came to America through California, when Washington speaks, it is very clear that he is highly educated. His voice is surprisingly low and velvety for a man of his size, and he has a Trans-Atlantic accent that points to a high quality, East Coast education. Though he often speaks quietly, barely above a whisper, Washington speaks clearly and enunciates his words carefully.

In addition to his native English, Washington also speaks Cantonese and Mandarin fluently. Through his Classical Education, Washington is fluent in French, Italian, Latin, and Greek as well. He also picked up the languages of his household staff in New York - learning conversation Gaelic from one of the maids, a bit of German and Yiddish from another, and Hindustani from the household Chef.

Washington and his family are practicing Buddhists and follow a vegetarian diet. He is non violent, and has never intentionally harmed of killed another living soul - not even a spider or a fly. He does however, have rather rigid beliefs around morality and a tendency to see Good and Evil as black and white terms.

Puzzles, riddles, and mysteries entertain him, along with reading and writing poetry. He still has a taste for the high brow culture of his youth - enjoying things like the opera, the ballet, the theater, and the fine arts. Science, technology, and innovation also interest him, as well as philosophy and deeper conversations around morality and the nature of the universe.

When encountering others who share similar interests with him, Washington's shell will open and he can become quite passionate and chatty. If one really wants to get Washington talking, they might bring up the topic of New York. He will ramble about the city and his memories and experiences there. It is very clear the young man is homesick and misses his life in the metropolis greatly.

Altruistic and compassionate, Washington is also a man who cannot turn a blind eye to those in need of help or assistance. He has a difficult time saying "no", and proves himself to be a responsible, reliable, and honest young man. Though he is hesitant to enter unknown or dangerous situations himself, if he is called upon to help someone, he will.

Background

History

In New York, the name Zhao is a well known one.

Zhao Chen and his wife, Xiuying, were not only members of New York City's elite social circles - but were also the wealthiest Chinese family living in the United States. Immigrants from Hong Kong, Chen owned and operated one of the largest international trading companies in the world - Zhao Oriental Imports - with branches in Hong Kong, London, New York, and San Francisco.

Within months of the young couple's arrival to New York to open a new branch of their company, Xiuying gave birth to a son on January 14th, 1863. To honor their new country and ensure that their child would embody their American Dream, he was not given a traditional Chinese name, but rather, he was named for the nation's Founding Father - General George Washington.

Despite the fact that their young son was not allowed to attend the same schools as the other children of the elite, no expense was spared by the Zhao family to provide young Washington the best possible education. Private tutors from prestigious institutions were hired to instruct the young man in a Classical Education.

By the age of 10, Washington spoke seven languages. By the time the boy was 15, he was studying topics with his tutors that other young men would not be taught until they attended University. Beyond the Study Room of his Greenwich Village Mansion, Washington's classroom was also the City itself - with his parents and tutors, he would attend lectures, art openings, and poetry readings across the growing city's cultural intuitions.

But where he excelled in academics, Washington faced the same challenges socially that his parents had been exposed to since their arrival to America. Their wealth bought them invitations to the galas and balls of the city's elite, but their names and faces would forever mark them as unwelcomed outsiders amongst the famous and influential Old Money families who controlled New York's Gilded Age social spheres.

At gatherings, the Zhaos were ridiculed behind their backs by the adults - and their children were instructed not to play or interact with Washington. Growing up, his only friends were his parents, his tutors, and the household staff that ran their mansion.

By Washington's 18th birthday, it had become painfully obvious that the young man would not find a suitable wife in New York, and so the decision was made in 1881 to send Washington west across the United States, to San Francisco. There he would board a ship destined to Hong Kong where he was expected to marry the daughter of one of Chen's business partners, before returning to New York to work under his father.

But Washington never arrived to San Francisco. Shortly before his train was expected to stop in Never, bandits forced the locomotive to a stop and robbed the passengers. In an attempt to protect the woman sitting beside him, Washington was stabbed and nearly killed. He was brought to Never to receive medical attention and to recover from his injuries. where he had a slow and painful recovery.

Washington never reached out to his parents to inform them of his location, as he had never wanted or agreed to the arranged marriage set up for him in Hong Kong. Neither does Washington have any interest in some day taking over his father's company. Wash wants to be a poet.

He hadn't the courage to stand up to his parents in New York, and so he took advantage of the chaos of the train robbery and attempted to make a life for himself out West instead, despite his growing homesickness and desire to see his parents again. He plans to reach out to them to tell them he is alive someday, but he's not ready to give up on his first real chance at freedom just yet.

Romance

Washington is young, naive, and inexperienced in love. He does however know that he is homosexual, though he keeps it a closely guarded secret.

Ultimately, a committed and monogamous relationship would be ideal for Washington, and it would most likely come from a slow burn relationship - though I am open to him having some sort of fiery passionate encounter as well, whether or not it actually leads to a long term relationship for him.

Friends

Shy and reserved, it might be difficult to form a close friendship with Wash at first, but he is extremely polite and helpful, and easy enough to talk to at his job or to approach him when he is reading or playing his violin.

I think Wash is in desperate need of friends and is open to people of all walks of life and backgrounds.

Antagonism

I'm fairly used to writing in historically accurate roleplays, and as long as things are discussed OOC and handled respectfully, I don't mind having Washington encounter characters who may have a negative view of Chinese people, or who see him as a City Boy with no business being in Never.

Wash is also gay, though not openly, but like with racism, as long as it is discussed, if a character were to find out about his sexuality, I am ok writing homophobic encounters as well.

In general Wash is also very naive and has no idea how to live outside of the bubble of wealth and urban high society he grew up in. If characters wish to try to lead him astray or take advantage of his kindness, I am down for that too. But Wash has pretty strict morals and one would have to be fairly manipulative to get him to go against those beliefs.

Maybe someone wants to rob the General Store while he's working too - or even claim responsibility for having robbed the train he was on when he was stabbed. He might recognize his attackers though - but if that's of interest to you, I am absolutely down to plot and discuss!

Other Plot Requests

I'm here to write and explore character dynamics and have fun! So really, I am open for anything. I think a character like Washington tends to be pretty passive in some ways and doesn't willingly venture out of his comfort zone.

Which of course means, I want to throw him into whacky, wild, dangerous situations whenever possible - so this boy can grow!
Kinks
Wash is gay, but he is a virgin and doesn't really know what he's into just yet. I will say that in terms of roles/position Washington leans towards being a top, and while he might be more passive and submissive to start, he also leans more dominant overall- though very much a soft dom.

Generally, it will depend on the dynamics of anyone who wants to explore a romantic or sexual relationship with him, but yeah - he's not a submissive bottom by any means. But he's also far from a leather daddy brutal dom top too. He's very gentle and loving, but likes to feel in control and has a thing for discipline.

Specific kinks might include: Body marking (biting and hickies specifically), teasing, edging, discipline, clothed sex, light bondage, spanking, body worship, secret codes, and mostly vanilla things like cuddling, holding hands, sleepy morning sex, bath sex..

Depending again on his partner, I could see Wash being into a man who is in touch with his feminine side and likes cross dressing. But that's not something Wash would really be open to doing himself. Or directly ask for either.

I will say that I am pretty kinky and open minded, so I leave room for Wash to get into spicier stuff. But early on, it would be fairly vanilla and cutesy for him. But if someone really want to blow this man's mind, talk to me OOC and we can figure it out, lol.

Hard limits are anything to do with animals, underage, bad odors and hygiene, bathroom stuff, or straight up non con.
